Local Man a Champion For Smiles

Below you will find an article taken from the PL American, a local newspaper in Prior Lake. An article was written about Jim and his journey to get more Smiles after his July 2013 mission to Peru.

Yes, real estate is Jim Slater’s passion, but that’s not why the Prior Lake man is a hero to children in Peru. He’s their hero because he has helped change the lives of about 80 kids in that country.

Slater has been donating at least $500 of each of his closings to Smile Network International, a Minnesota-based nonprofit devoted to changing the lives of impoverished children born with cleft lips and palates by providing free life-altering surgeries.

He also recently trekked to Machu Picchu in Peru, a four-day, 26-mile hike in altitudes ranging from 7, 000 to 13, 000 feet, to raise even more money for Smile Network.

Slater has raised more than $40, 000 in the last year, enough to fund 80 surgeries.
