5 Current Design Trends That Won’t Last

There are new trends that come about every year, and while they look good at the time, many of them will not last. Below we talk about five 2024 trends that came through the diversity of styles people brought to the table seeking individualization and uniqueness in 2024, rather than the quiet luxury trend the majority was following in 2023.

  1. Tiled Kitchen Counters

Pulled from the 1980s, interior designers brought back tiled kitchen counters to compliment the high-demand vintage style of today’s consumer. While the design can be dressed up or down and can look quite impressive at times, the maintenance is what lost their spark in the first place. The kitchen isn’t the easiest place to keep clean in the first place, and no one wants to get their tooth brush out and scrub between each tile.

  1. Stark White Walls

Bright white came back as a fresh look in 2024, easy to pair with different woods and plants. Some designers say it adds a certain energy to every room. However, we already see this being replaced with softer tones. As the mixing of patterns, materials, and textures increases in popularity, warmer tones will begin to takeover once again.

  1. Seafoam Green Accents

Once again, adding to the vintage style, seafoam green had made a significant comeback in 2024, adding a touch of color to rather neutral tones and rooms. Seafoam green creates a relaxing environment while giving a formal feel to a space. As we transition into 2025 however, seafoam green doesn’t seem so timeless, and we can see it being used less and less going into a comfort only 2025.

  1. Layered Rugs

A trend that SRG has never quite been a big fan of, but rose with the trend of mixing patterns and materials. However, in 2025 we are looking for complementary mixing, not a messy look. Overlapping rugs not only cause a trip hazard, but they can make a room look smaller while your guests eyes draw to their feet rather than the open space around them. We can expect large rugs to be the new rug trend for 2025 with some designers saying “The bigger the better!”

  1. Bold Colors in the Bedroom

Another not-so-favorite trend of ours that made its way back in 2024, the bold colors made their way back into the bedroom with the idea of the colors adding a burst of energy to your day every morning—but didn’t think about unwinding each night. Neutral bedrooms are making their way back, your room should speak of comfort as soon as you walk in. Layer with different textures and stick to a neutral pallet coming in to 2025.

Bottom Line

We can always talk about what is going to be in and out, however it is good to remember that personalization is important too. Design your home to what makes you feel most comfortable and at ease, add your own personal splash. But if you are looking to sell in the near future, keep in mind of what today’s buyers are looking for, and what you need to do for max exposure to receive the best profit for your home.

If you are looking to sell soon, Jim Slater would be happy to come take a look at your home and provide tips of any painting or design tips to help with the sale of your home. Sooner or later, you’ll call Jim Slater! 612-590-1802
