6 Design Tips to Improve the Quality of Your Sleep
Everyone is always looking for ways to improve their sleep, and most people would never think about interior design as a partaking factor. If you are actively looking for ways to improve the quality of your rest at night, consider the following design tips in your bedroom.
Invest in a Good Bed
We all like to save some money when we can, but when it comes to your bed, don’t be stingy! Think about it, we spend roughly a third of our lives sleeping, and the quality of that third of our life actively plays a role on how the other two thirds can go.
We’re not just talking about the mattress, but everything that comes with it: bed frame, pillows, bedding, and comforters. It’s important to find the fabrics that bring you the most comfort to your style of sleeping (We would recommend spending time on defining what type of sleeper you are before diving into these purchases).
When it comes to bed frames and mattresses, both should be supportive and sturdy, not moving around everytime you move or making any squeaks, all of these little things can play a large role in the quality of your sleep. Also, mattresses, pillows, and bedding all get worn out, don’t forget to replace these things as needed, keeping your sleeping space fresh.
Pick a Paint Color that Calms You
When it comes to bright colors and eccentric wallpapers, save them for a different room. Paint and patterns can really affect the mood of a room overall, and in the bedroom you should shoot for darker more neutral tones and subtle patterns to help create a restful space and mood for when you’re winding down at the end of a busy day.
Keep it Organized on the Bedside
We all know organization can help with a peaceful mind anywhere in the home, however, in the bedroom, the bedside table can play a significant role in restfulness. Be a minimalist when it comes to your bedside table. Keep it decluttered, afterall it will be the first and last thing you see each day.
Quality Curtains
Although many people like to wake up to natural light, sometimes the light coming through, especially during summer months, can impact our sleep largely. It is recommended to have two layers of curtains, one that are more sheer that still let some light through, and another option of black out curtains, allowing none through when necessary.
Another great option today are smart blinds, which of course are a bigger investment, but they allow you to set timers for when you want the blinds to rise and let the natural light into your room, a great way to wake up each morning.
Minimize Furniture
Take a look around your bedroom, is there any furniture you can get rid of? Bulky furniture can cause a space to feel crowded, especially if these pieces are too close to the bed. Consider rearranging or getting rid of extra furniture to help create the most comforting space before bed.
Lighting – More Options the Better!
We recommend having different options for lighting anywhere in the home, but especially in the bedroom. It is highly recommended to have dimming lights with different settings, along with both overhead lighting options and other mood lighting options like lamps or under furniture lighting. Lighting plays an important role in setting the mood of a room, so play around and explore your options for the mood you’d like to create for your bedroom.
